Applications for 2024 Internship Program will be available in early 2024.

Apply now for our Internship program. Interns receive the opportunity to continue with a paid job as well as the chance to receive the Stan Sherrill Memorial college scholarship starting at $500! This program will give you all of the skills you will need to introduce tennis to children and to continue to develop your skills to teach all ages and skills.

Internship program will begin in March and training will continue through August. Interns can expect to work weekday afternoons between 4:00-6:30. They do not need to work/train everyday. Schedule will intensify June-August with summer camps.

OTC Teen Internship Program 

To equip teenagers with the skills to teach and inspire our youngest tennis players through structured and fun tennis lessons. 

Program Outline 

The program contains four progressive parts from March-August 

  1. Introduction to teaching basic tennis skills/Helping adult coaches run lessons

  2. Running 45 minute beginner lessons with the help of one of our teen coaches

  3. Running entire classes with a paired intern

  4. Helping organize and teach summer camps with adults and teen coaches

Who can apply and what qualifications does that person need? 

  1. You must be at least 15 years old or a junior or senior in high school at the time you apply. We’re looking for dependable, enthusiastic, and kind teens with great attitudes who can inspire and motivate our younger players.

  2. You need to be currently attending OTC high school drill classes or currently taking private lessons from an OTC coach

  3. You must have reliable transportation to and from the courts

  4. You must be available for a minimum of two weeks of summer camp

  5. Available at least two afternoons most weeks to teach kids classes

  6. Attend most staff trainings and/or meetings

  7. Good and prompt communication via text

How many spots are available? 

3-4 spots

Who chooses the teen interns? 

Jason, Jake, Lindy and Lisa will work as a team to decide who joins our staff. 

Is this a paid internship? 

Not initially but, if students enjoy teaching and are able to individually design and run lessons, they will be offered a PAID high school coaching position upon completing training. Interns must complete 25 hours of on court training followed by running 3 classes on their own. At the end of the training, interns will be offered a paid job.

If I become a teen coach, what perks come with the position?

  2. The opportunity for a steady, paying job for the school year. We work with your schedule!

  3. College recommendation (if requested)

  4. Working for a not for profit(501c3) in an internship that helps build character and confidence, an excellent addition to any college application.
